Khyber Pakhtunkhwa govt bans VIPs free stay in government rest houses

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government has implemented a sweeping ban on VIPs and their families enjoying free stays at government rest houses across the region.

The decision, announced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advisor for Tourism, Culture, and Archeology Zahid Chinzeb, comes in response to mounting complaints from the public regarding the preferential treatment afforded to VIPs in government accommodations. According to Chinzeb, numerous grievances had been lodged regarding the extended and complimentary stays of VIPs and their families, which often left little or no space available for ordinary citizens.

In a move aimed at rectifying this disparity, the provincial government has issued a notification officially prohibiting free stays for VIPs in government rest houses. The directive, accompanied by instructions to all relevant authorities, aims to ensure equitable access to government facilities for all citizens.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken proactive measures to enhance tourism infrastructure and amenities in Murree and other tourist destinations. Ordering a ban on plastic use and directing the implementation of modern transportation systems, including cable cars and trams, Maryam Nawaz Sharif has underscored the importance of comprehensive planning for the development of Murree.

Additional initiatives include plans for water supply schemes and the demolition of illegal structures, along with efforts to streamline traffic flow through the implementation of one-way road systems. Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directives reflect a commitment to enhancing the visitor experience while ensuring the sustainable development and preservation of Murree’s natural beauty.

As both provincial governments take steps to address key issues impacting tourism and public access, the focus remains on fostering inclusivity and equitable distribution of resources for the benefit of all citizens.
