LHC seeks reply from Federal govt on maintainability of contempt petition against PM Shahbaz

The Lahore High Court has sought a response from the federal government on the maintainability of a contempt of court petition against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The petition, filed by Ashba Kamran, was heard by Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan at the Lahore High Court. The petition accuses Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of making inappropriate remarks about judges. The federal government has been made a party to the case through the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.

During the hearing, Justice Waheed Khan inquired from the Additional Attorney General whether the petition is maintainable. The Additional Attorney General responded that the Supreme Court had raised the same question the previous day.

The federal government’s lawyer stated that the Attorney General had clarified to the Supreme Court that the Prime Minister’s remarks were not about the current judges.

The court asked if there was a written order from the Supreme Court, to which the federal government’s lawyer replied that they had not yet received the written order.

Subsequently, the court sought a response from the federal government on the maintainability of the contempt of court petition against the Prime Minister.
