Chinese company announces first phase of crucial water supply project for Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (CSCEC), the largest construction contractor in the world, has announced the commencement of the first phase of a crucial water supply project in Rawalpindi.

The project aims to address the chronic water scarcity issue faced by the city and provide clean drinking water to its residents.

This project is expected to provide clean drinking water to over 3 million people, significantly reducing the water scarcity in the region.

This will not only improve the quality of life for residents, but also contribute to the overall hygiene conditions in the city, Gwadar Pro reported on Sunday.

Rawalpindi has been struggling with water shortages in recent years due to rising demand and dwindling water resources.

Climate change has further exacerbated the situation, leading to a decline in the water levels of local reservoirs and rivers.

In a bid to alleviate this pressing issue, CSCEC has stepped in to construct the first phase of the water supply project.

The project will utilize the Chahan Dam intake as its primary water source, designed to pump 12MGD of raw water daily to a water treatment plant.

After a rigorous purification process, the treated water will be distributed to various supply zones through a network of intermediate pumping stations, water plants, electricity supply and gravity pipelines.
