Gang of female thieves on the loose at Peshawar’s BRT

Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system has become a target for a gang of female thieves, who are reportedly depriving commuters of 15 to 20 mobile phones daily, according to a report by Peshawar police.

The police report has revealed that this gang is responsible for looting mobile phones valued between Rs300,000 to Rs400,000 each day, causing a significant loss for the affected passengers.

The report has identified 22 women involved in these criminal activities, operating across 10 stations along the BRT route within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Peshawar city.

In response to this escalating issue, authorities have taken the step of publicly displaying pictures of these thieves at BRT stations to raise awareness among commuters and aid in their identification and apprehension.

It has been noted that the arrested women have been using counterfeit identity cards displaying various regions of Punjab, including Nowshera, as the place of issuance. Despite their arrests, the gang members have managed to continue their operations by exploiting these counterfeit ID cards.

The criminal authorities are intensifying their efforts to combat this organized crime, which not only affects the safety and security of commuters but also poses a financial burden on the victims.
