MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal demands action against deadly street crime

Mustafa Kamal, a prominent leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), on Tuesday urged the government to take decisive action to combat the alarming rise in deadly street crime across the country.

He condemned the brutal killings of innocent civilians during robbery attempts as nothing short of ‘genocide’, challenging law enforcement agencies’ assertions of maintaining peace while citing a staggering death toll of 71 people killed by muggers this year alone.

Speaking at a press conference wherein he was surrounded by individuals holding images of victims who fell prey to various mugging incidents in the metropolis, Kamal emphasised the urgent need for the government to intervene and ensure the safety of citizens.

It may be noted here that a day earlier, a young man had lost his life when muggers shot him during a motorcycle snatching attempt in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The robbers violently took his motorcycle, mobile phone, and cash. When he resisted, they mercilessly opened fire, resulting in his untimely death.

Furthermore, Kamal underscored the deep-seated challenges faced by urban areas, particularly in Sindh due to the decades-long quota system.

He also criticised the systemic injustices that have led to qualified urban residents losing out on job opportunities to individuals with fraudulent domiciles, ultimately exacerbating the vulnerability of talented youths who now face the grim reality of falling victim to violent crimes under the guise of robbery.
