GWADAR: Construction of the New Gwadar International Airport, a key component of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is nearing completion.
This ambitious project, sprawling over 4,300 acres, features a runway that can accommodate the Airbus A380, the largest aircraft in the world. The airport’s modern terminal building, covering 14,000 square meters, is set to transform Gwadar’s infrastructure and catalyse future growth. With an investment of $246 million, the airport is on schedule to open in 2024.
A significant achievement was marked recently when the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan (CAA), with support from China, conducted a successful five-day flight test operation starting Tuesday, June 4, 2024. The inaugural test flight received a traditional salute as it touched down.
This critical test phase aimed to evaluate the performance, quality, and safety of navigation facilities, flight procedures, and landing strips. With the completion of these tests, the project moves into its final stage.
Scheduled for completion and handover to local authorities later this year, the New Gwadar International Airport is set to be a landmark of modernity in Gwadar, boosting the city’s infrastructure and enhancing its role in regional development.
