Ex-Sindh governor Zubair quits PML-N, cites shifting party narratives

ISLAMABAD, June 9 (INP) – Former governor of Sindh Muhammad Zubair on Sunday announced his resignation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), citing disagreements with party leadership over several key issues including the no-confidence motion against former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In an interview with a private TV news channel, Zubair expressed his discontent with the PML-N’s departure from its foundational slogan, “Vote Ko Izzat Do” (Respect the Vote), and criticised the party’s shifting narrative from confrontation to reconciliation, and now focusing on economic issues.

He highlighted that the PML-N leadership had considered calling for elections immediately following the no-confidence motion against Khan, with preparations for then-Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s assembly dissolution speech already underway.

Zubair, who has not yet decided to join another political party, stated, “I conveyed my differences to the party leadership long ago.”

He emphasized that his decision to leave was influenced by the 16-month performance of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s government and other internal party issues.

Born into a politically active family, Zubair’s political journey began with his joining of PML-N. He served as the governor of Sindh, where he was involved in various developmental initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic landscape of the province. During his tenure with the party, Zubair held significant roles and was influential in shaping party policies and strategies.
