Punjab to downsize, restructure loss-making depts

LAHORE: The Punjab government, under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has embarked on what is described as the largest restructuring initiative in the history of its ministries and departments.

This significant overhaul was approved on Sunday, aiming to streamline operations and enhance public service delivery.

The restructuring plan involves the downsizing of redundant, ineffective, and loss-making departments to alleviate the financial strain on the provincial government.

Additionally, the plan includes the merging of departments with overlapping functions to improve efficiency and simplify the management of government affairs.

This initiative is projected to save billions of rupees, substantially reducing the government’s annual expenditures and freeing up financial resources for other essential services.
