Fugitive, murder suspect working as security guard in Karachi arrested

KARACHI: A proclaimed offender from Punjab, previously involved in a murder case, was apprehended on Monday in Karachi where he had been employed as a security guard for 14 months without proper documentation.

The man, identified as Waseem, was arrested jointly by Punjab and Karachi police two days ago.

Waseem had been on the run since 2023 after murdering a man named Nasir in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area. Following the murder, he fled with the victim’s wife, initially to Rawalpindi and later to Karachi. Once in Karachi, Waseem and the woman initially took refuge in Madhu Goth, a locality in the Gulshan area.

After settling in Karachi, Waseem managed to rent a house for Rs9,000 a month and found employment first at Sabzi Mandi before being hired by a security company.

Remarkably, the security firm did not require any documents to verify his identity or background. “The security company didn’t demand any documents from me,” Waseem disclosed to police.

Waseem further revealed that he was recruited as a security guard without any prior training and faced difficulties in obtaining an authority letter to formalise his identity.

“The accused was hiding in Karachi after committing the murder, and Punjab police had come here in search of him,” police officials stated.

Waseem, along with the woman accompanying him, has since been arrested and handed over to Punjab police for further proceedings.
