Significant blow to terrorism in KP as 117 killed, 299 arrested

PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has achieved significant results in the fight against terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), killing 117 terrorists and arresting 299 others in 237 terrorism-related incidents across 26 districts over the past six months, according to a report released on Monday.

The report highlights the heavy toll on law enforcement, with 65 police personnel martyred and 86 injured during these operations. North Waziristan, a major hotspot, witnessed 40 incidents of extremism, where 20 terrorists were killed and 6 arrested this year.

Dera Ismail Khan experienced 37 terrorist incidents, resulting in the martyrdom of 17 police officers and injuries to 14, while 23 militants were killed and 32 arrested. In Tank, 33 incidents resulted in the deaths of 5 police officers and injuries to 2, with the CTD killing 16 militants and arresting 4.

Bannu saw 22 extremist incidents, leading to 5 police fatalities and 9 injuries, with 5 militants killed and 13 arrested. Lakki Marwat reported 18 incidents, where 5 police personnel were martyred and 2 injured; the region also saw 9 militants killed and 8 arrested.

South Waziristan had 8 terrorism incidents, with 2 police fatalities and 3 injuries, resulting in 8 militant deaths. Karak’s 3 operations led to the killing of 3 extremists and the arrest of 4. Bajaur, with 14 operations, suffered 11 police martyrs and 32 injuries, while Khyber, in 22 incidents, saw 8 militants killed and 12 arrested.

Peshawar, with 14 incidents, reported 2 terrorist deaths and 81 arrests, alongside 7 police martyrs and 2 injuries. Additionally, in a single incident in Nago, 3 extremists were arrested.

The CTD’s ongoing efforts in KP demonstrate a determined approach to curbing terrorism, reflecting a substantial commitment to securing the region against extremist threats.
