Two Muslim clerics murdered in BJP-governed Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: Two imams have been murdered in separate incidents in the BJP-governed state of Uttar Pradesh, raising alarms over the safety of religious leaders.

In Moradabad District’s Bhensia village, Maulana Akram was fatally shot by unidentified assailants, reported Kashmir Media Service. Another tragic event occurred in Shamli district, where 50-year-old Imam Fazlur Rahman was found dead. His son, who has a mental disability, was with him during the incident.

These murders follow the recent killing of 67-year-old Maulana Farooq in Sonpur village, Pratapgarh. Farooq served as the district general secretary for Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

A series of murders targeting Muslim clerics within a week has sparked serious concerns about their safety. Shaukat Ali, president of the All India Majlise-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Uttar Pradesh, criticized the BJP government for the failing law and order in the state.

“Our Ulema are being murdered continuously; the BJP government remains silent, allowing criminals to brazenly disregard the law. It’s deeply troubling,” Ali stated.
