ISLAMABAD: In a pointed response to remarks made by Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) leader Asad Qaiser, PML-N lawmaker Nosheen Iftikhar brought bangles to the National Assembly (NA) to challenge his comments equating bangles with women’s weakness.
During a session in the NA, Qaiser had used the analogy to depict weakness, prompting Iftikhar’s symbolic gesture of presenting him with bangles as a rebuttal.
In addition to this protest, Nosheen Iftikhar voiced criticism against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), referencing allegations of electoral malpractices, including the infamous ‘stealing of ballot boxes’ during the Daska by-elections in 2021.
This act of defiance was part of broader discussions around gender respect and political conduct within the Assembly.
The controversy over inappropriate remarks extended beyond Qaiser, with NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq suspending SIC member Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel for the remainder of the budget session.
Mastikhel was censured for making indecent remarks against female lawmakers, which Sadiq highlighted as a serious breach of parliamentary decorum. The House adopted a motion confirming Mastikhel’s suspension, emphasizing the need to maintain the sanctity and respectful discourse within the legislative environment.
