ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Imran Khan has filed a petition with the Supreme Court requesting an early hearing of his pending appeal against his disqualification as a lawmaker. The petition was submitted through Barrister Ali Zafar.
The plea requests the apex court to expedite the hearing of the PTI founder’s appeal against his disqualification as a legislator.
The petition states that currently, a process is underway to remove Imran Khan from his position as party supremo following his disqualification by the Election Commission.
The plea further states that cases challenging the Election Commission’s orders are currently pending in the Islamabad and Lahore high courts, arguing that due to these pending cases, Imran Khan, as the founder of PTI, is unable to contest assembly elections or participate in any by-elections pending the outcome of his appeal.
Imran Khan had submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court on January 10, 2024, challenging his disqualification by the Election Commission.
