IHC dismisses charges against Sheikh Rashid in multi-regional defamation case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday dismissed the cases against former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, which were lodged in Sindh and Balochistan for making inappropriate remarks against PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri issued the verdict, addressing the complaints that had been registered in Islamabad, Mochko (Sindh), and Lasbela (Balochistan).

These cases stemmed from Rashid’s controversial comments about Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and accusations against PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, the current president of Pakistan, of allegedly conspiring to assassinate former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Following the court’s decision, Sheikh Rashid, who attended the hearing, spoke to the media. He argued that the same incident should not lead to multiple cases across different regions.

He also voiced his views on the current political situation, describing it as critical, and questioned the effectiveness of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent diplomatic efforts in China.

Moreover, Rashid pointed out that the court’s decision could pave the way for relief for incarcerated PTI leaders, including Yasmin Rashid, Aliya Hamza, and Sanam Javed, suggesting broader implications of the verdict.
