PM’s dialogue offer noting but political point-scoring: Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: ‘Newly-conceived’ Awam Pakistan Party convener Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday blasted PM Shahbaz Sharif’s talks offer to the opposition, dubbing it mere political point scoring.

In an interview with a private TV Channel, the former prime minister commented on PTI founder Imran Khan’s imprisonment conditions, stating that he is receiving the same facilities as common prisoners. Abbasi highlighted that Imran Khan is housed in a prison section designated during his own tenure.

Abbasi expressed discontent with all political parties in Pakistan, including his former party PML-N, for their inability to address the country’s current issues.

He acknowledged his 35-year involvement with PML-N, accepting responsibility for both its successes and failures. Abbasi also criticized the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for being used for political purposes, citing false cases and press conferences against political opponents.

Emphasizing the need to restore the economy and instill hope in the younger generation, Abbasi advocated for governance according to the constitution. He mentioned that the process of party registration for Awam Pakistan is underway, with various individuals from different fields joining the party.

A few days ago, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, along with Miftah Ismail, launched their new political party, Awam Pakistan. Abbasi will serve as the party’s convener, with Ismail as his deputy. The official announcement of Awam Pakistan Party is scheduled for July 6 in Islamabad. Abbasi clarified that they are not focusing on gathering electables, while Ismail reiterated that the formal announcement will take place next month.
