ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Water Resources has called for a comprehensive 10-year performance report from the Flood Commission, it was reported on Thursday.
The meeting, chaired by Senator Shahadat Awan, highlighted significant concerns over the commission’s repetitive and unproductive annual reports.
Senator Awan pointed out that the reports from 2017 to the present have been nearly identical, criticizing the commission for its lack of substantial work despite requesting billions in funds annually. “The Flood Commission should also do some work,” he stated, emphasizing the need for tangible results.
During the session, Ahmed Kamal, Chairman of the Federal Flood Commission, reiterated the protocol for managing Tarbela Dam’s water levels, stating that it must be filled by August 20 each year, with excess rainwater being released as necessary.
However, issues remain unresolved, particularly concerning the losses from RBOD One and Two, which Kamal acknowledged, hinting at potential irregularities.
The Water Resources Committee has demanded a detailed report on these discrepancies, pushing for accountability and transparency within the Flood Commission.
