Senior lawyer Mian Qayoom remanded in police custody till July 1 in IIOJK

JAMMU: A court in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on Thursday remanded senior lawyer and former president of the High Court Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom, in police custody until July 1.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the remand was issued by a special court in Jammu in connection with a false case.

Mian Abdul Qayoom, a prominent Kashmiri figure, was arrested by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) during a house raid in Srinagar on Tuesday. He was transported from Srinagar to Jammu, where he appeared before the special court.

During the in-camera proceedings, the police requested a 15-day remand to interrogate Qayoom. However, the judge granted remand until July 1 and instructed that Qayoom be presented before a designated National Investigation Agency (NIA) judge.

Mian Qayoom stated during the hearing that he had not been informed about the grounds for his arrest. The sole aim of such actions is to suppress dissent in IIOJK and subdue the Kashmiris.
