- Raza Rabbani, Taj Haider and others pay tribute to Shaheed Munawar Soharwardi
KARACHI: People’s Party Sindh President Nisar Khoro has said that the People’s Party will continue to play its role for the continuation of democracy, the supremacy of the Parliament and the Constitution in the country.
“The People’s Party has refused to join the federal government because it has been supporting the federal government only to ensure continuity of democracy”, Nisar Khoro stated while speaking at a ceremony held to mark the 20th anniversary of Shaheed Munawar Soharwardi at Arts Council Karachi.
On the occasion, PPP Executive Council Member and former Senate chairman Main Raza Rabbani, Sindh General Secretary Waqar Mehdi, Senator Taj Haider, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Javed Naguri, Faizan Soharwardi, Aslam Samu, Arts Council President Ahmed Shah, Journalist Shahid Abbas Jatoi, Zia Awan Advocate, Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Murad, party leader Ijaz Durrani, HM Ghanchi, Zahid Shabbir, Arshad Naqvi, representatives of Malir Town Municipality Muhammad Ali, Aslam Qureshi, Manoor Sohri Vardi were present at the ceremony. Families and hundreds of workers also participated in the ceremony.
Nisar Khoro said that if Munawar Soharwardy was alive, Benazir Bhutto would not have allowed the martyr to get out of the car after the Liaquat Bagh rally on December 27. He did not stop him from meeting Benazir Bhutto. He said that he pays full tribute to Shaheed Munawar Soharwardi for his services for the party.
He said that in the past, the MRD movement was launched to demand the right to vote. He said that the workers are the strength of the party, so the workers should fight to make the People’s Party successful throughout the country.
Speaking on this occasion, Main Raza Rabbani said that the People’s Party has to play a role to get rid of the hybrid system like the one played by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
He said that the ideology of the People’s Party was to fight against the elite and the civil-military bureaucracy, for which one has to play a role. He said that the ideology of People’s Party is labour friendly and we are against privatization. He said that Munawar Soharwardy was an ideological worker of the party who fought hard for the restoration of democracy. He said that the child of Pakistan will die. But he will never bow his head before Pakistan’s elite and IMF.
General Secretary Waqar Mehdi said that Martyr Munawar Soharwardi was a true soldier of Martyr Benazir Bhutto who fought for the party by staying in touch with the workers.
