Sheikh Rashid reveals receiving steep utility bills, warns of unrest

RAWALPINDI: Leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML) and former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has been sent high utility bills, it was revealed on Sunday.

As per details, Rashid received a gas bill amounting to Rs100,000, shortly after being charged Rs168,000 for electricity. He publicly displayed both bills to the media, expressing his dismay.

Rashid, who lives alone, has stated that despite not using an air conditioner and having minimal household activities that consume electricity, his utility bills are unreasonably high. This issue has even led to tenants vacating his rental properties.

In a recent video message, Rashid shared his modest daily routine, noting that he usually has breakfast at a local food cart and rarely cooks at home, except for dinner. Despite his limited use of home utilities, his gas bill was significantly higher than those of neighboring families, who received bills ranging from Rs6,000 to Rs8,000.

The former minister also voiced his concerns about the broader economic challenges facing the country, warning of unrest due to rampant inflation and economic instability.

He criticized the current leadership for failing to protect the poor and warned that the struggle has evolved from electoral disputes to a fight for basic survival.
