  • Seven die as picnickers’ coaster upturns near Mauripur truck stand

KARACHI/ KHANDKOT: Seven picnickers died on Sunday when a coaster overturned near Mauripur truck stand and four policemen were killed when a police mobile van overturned on Indus Highway in Khandkot while three members of the same family were killed when a speeding mini-truck hit a motorcycle in Sheikhupura on Sunday, rescuers and police confirmed.

“A coaster van was carrying people for picnic to Hawkes Bay, when it overturned near the new truck stand of Mauripur,” rescue sources said.

“Seven persons in the van including three children and three women died in the accident, while scores of others injured,” said rescue workers.

Three children died in mishap on the spot, while four others succumbed to their injuries while on the way to the hospital.

The rescue officials, police and local people gathered at the spot of the accident and dead bodies and injured trapped in the vehicle were removed from the van and transferred to the civil hospital.

Police said that overspeed caused the accident as speedy coaster overturned while anticipating a turn.

The deceased included three children, three women and a man, while scores of injured said to be in a precarious condition.

Four policemen die in road accident in Kandhkot

In another accident that occurred in Khandkot, four policemen were killed and three other sustained injuries when a police mobile van overturned on the Indus Highway on Sunday.

The ill-fated mobile van was part of the SSP squad. The bodies and the injured were later shifted to a hospital. According to police and rescuers, the four cops died on the spot.

Three of same family killed as mini-truck hits bike

Meanwhile in Sheikhupura, three members of a same family including a child were killed when a speeding mini-truck hit a motorcycle near Gujjar Chowk here on Sunday, rescue sources said.

The police said the accident took place on Kala Khatai Road in tehsil Murdike of Sheikhupura where a recklessly-driven mini-truck ran a motorcycle over.

As a result, 8-year-old child among three family members died on the spot.

The driver responsible for the accident fled the scene.

The deceased included 60-year-old Riasat Ali, his son 30-year-old Haider Ali and eight-year-old grandson Hassan.

The bodies were shifted to hospital. The police impounded the mini truck and after registering a case against driver at large started raids for his arrest.

Nine injured in Mansehra Hiace plunge

Nine persons were critically injured when a Toyota Hiace fell into a ravine at Sandur in Lasan Nawab area near Mansehra.

Rescue 1122 personnel said the injured included three children and women.

All those injured were shifted to King Abdullah Hospital after the provision of first aid.
