Glass train between Rawalpindi and Murree approved to boost tourism

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given the green light for the development of a tourist ‘glass train’ project between Rawalpindi and Murree, aimed at boosting tourism in the region.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in Murree, where several initiatives were approved to enhance the beauty and appeal of this popular hill station. To ensure the successful execution of the glass train project, the government plans to engage international consultants.

In addition to the train project, the Chief Minister approved several other development projects aimed at the beautification of Murree. This includes the removal of high-rise hotel buildings that obstruct the natural views along Mall Road in Rawalpindi.

The meeting also sanctioned the construction and expansion of the old Rawalpindi-Murree-Kashmir Road. Another significant decision was to dismantle hotels around the GPO chowk and to restore all old buildings to preserve the area’s historical essence.

Murree, known for its scenic vistas, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the country annually. These initiatives are expected to further enhance the tourist experience and promote local culture and heritage.
