ISLAMABAD: Former federal information minister Shibli Faraz has voiced concerns over Pakistan’s deepening economic crisis, which he attributes to ongoing political instability.
Speaking alongside Kanwal Shauzab in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader emphasized the necessity of having duly elected representatives in parliament to foster genuine improvement.
Faraz criticized the current composition of parliament, suggesting that many members are seated due to procedural formalities rather than a direct public mandate, thus lacking legitimate representation. He also pointed out that the recent federal budget is not aligned with public interests.
Highlighting issues with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Faraz accused it of failing to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities. He expressed concerns over the protraction of legal cases and the international criticism of the last general elections, mentioning a UN report that purportedly plans to use these elections as a case study.
The PTI leader linked the deteriorating economic conditions to the flawed electoral process, asserting that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not favor Pakistan under its current political framework. He stressed that only true public representatives could steer the country back on the right path.
Additionally, Kanwal Shauzab accused the ECP of violating Article 17 of the Pakistani constitution by unjustly delisting PTI, claiming that PTI candidates were coerced into running as independents.
