Victorious Indian cricket team meets with PM Modi in Delhi upon return

The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, landed in Delhi with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 trophy on 4 July, following their victory in Barbados on 29 June. The team checked into the ITC Maurya Hotel, where they were treated to a special breakfast prepared by the hotel staff. Afterward, they proceeded to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. According to current updates, the team has left the PM’s residence and is now headed to Mumbai for the victory parade.

In the morning, fans gathered outside Delhi airport and ITC Maurya to catch a glimpse of their favorite cricketers. The crowd chanted “India, India” as the team arrived from the Caribbean.

Initially, the players, coaches, support staff, and other members were scheduled to take a flight to the USA from Barbados and then travel to India via the UAE. However, this plan was disrupted due to the threat of Hurricane Beryl, which had placed Barbados on high alert since 30 June.

After a two-day delay, the BCCI arranged a chartered flight for the entire team and their families to return home together. India’s media professionals, who were also stranded in Barbados, were offered seats on the special chartered flight from Barbados to Delhi.

Reports indicate that PM Modi is expected to meet with the World Cup winners around 11 am in Delhi. On 29 June, India defeated South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, by seven runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 finals at Barbados.
