Princess Kate and Prince William have made a significant change to their team by announcing a major new appointment.
Sir David Lewis, a former supermarket executive, has been appointed as a director of The Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The Royal Foundation oversees all of the couple’s campaigning efforts, including William’s Earthshot Prize and Kate’s focus on early years education, as reported by The Sun.
Sir David, 59, spent 27 years at Unilever, where he launched the now-iconic Dove brand.
Known for his cost-cutting measures, the Yorkshireman earned the nickname “Drastic Dave.”
Sir David’s Corporate Career
In 2014, Sir David became CEO of Tesco after the company reported a £6.4 billion loss.
He implemented significant changes, including cutting thousands of jobs and eliminating boardroom perks like private jets to combat competition from Aldi and Lidl.
By 2016, Tesco reported annual profits of £162 million.
Sir David left Tesco in 2020 to spend more time with his family in Surrey.
He soon joined a renewable energy start-up and took on roles with Morrisons, Pepsi, and the World Wildlife Fund.
In 2021, he was knighted for his services to business, which caught the royal family’s attention.
A royal source told the Daily Mail that Sir David’s appointment is “genius” and will establish “strong foundations” for William and Kate’s initiatives.
However, the couple has reportedly shelved plans to appoint a new CEO to manage their royal household.
They announced a search for a new executive last September amid reports that William wanted a “revolutionary” shake-up.
