Ali Sethi, a well-known Pakistani singer and son of a former Punjab Chief Minister, found himself in the spotlight once more with a recent post on social media. Last year, his rumored marriage to artist Salman Toor made headlines, but as time passed, public interest faded.
During ‘Pride Day,’ Ali Sethi took to Instagram to share a childhood photo accompanied by a heartfelt message to his younger self: “Hey little one! I know how tough it can be when people tell you not to be yourself.” He went on to highlight the beauty of being unique: “But what sets you apart from everyone else will eventually become your greatest source of strength and beauty. Love is waiting for you.”
Closing his post with a ‘#HappyPride’ hashtag, Sethi’s words stirred a passionate debate online. In Islamic Republic of Pakistan, homosexuality is religiously and legally prohibited. Promotion of it can even result in imprisonment.
Fans strongly criticized him for openly accepting and promoting the pride movement.
