Pakistan’s 18-strong team set for Paris Olympics

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has announced its participation in the upcoming Paris Olympics with an 18-member squad across three sports: athletics, shooting, and swimming. The national team, set to start their competitions on July 26, includes seven athletes gearing up for global competition.

During the anticipated opening ceremony, either shooter Kashmala Talat or javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem is expected to carry the Pakistani flag, leading the contingent. In athletics, Arshad Nadeem and Faiqa Riaz will be in action, each aiming to excel in their respective events.

The shooting team is comprised of Ghulam Mustafa Bashir, Kashmala Talat, and Gulfam Joseph, who will be coached by Gandy and Junaid Ali. The swimming contingent will feature athletes Ahmed Durrani, Ahmad Ali Khan, and Jahan Ara, supported by team officials Haji Mohammad Shafiq and Javed Lodhi.

After a medal-less performance in the Tokyo Olympics, the nation is hopeful, particularly for Arshad Nadeem’s potential to make a significant impact in the javelin throw. The first group to depart will be the shooting team on July 19, followed by the swimmers and team officials on July 22, and the athletics team on July 24.
