NEW DELHI: A BJP leader in New Delhi has threatened to kill 200,000 Muslims within 48 hours, causing fear and migration among the local Muslim community. The threat was made by BJP leader Karnail Singh in the Kalkaji area after the discovery of a dead calf.
In a video that went viral on social media, Singh was seen threatening a police officer in Sangam Vihar, saying, “You have 48 hours to do what you can against them (Muslims), otherwise whether there are 150,000 or 200,000 Muslims here, we will kill them all.”
Local Muslim leaders have filed a complaint against Singh, demanding his arrest and invocation of the National Security Act (NSA). However, no action has been taken against him so far.
The incident has led to dozens of Muslim families reportedly leaving the area. Hindutva supporters are reportedly visiting the area, chanting slogans against Muslims such as “Send them to Pakistan,” “Katwe” (a derogatory term), and “Terrorists.”
This incident comes amid ongoing tensions and violence against Muslims in various parts of India, particularly during religious festivals like Eid al-Adha.
In Uttar Pradesh, restrictions on animal sacrifice have caused difficulties for Muslims celebrating the festival. The BJP and Hindu nationalist groups have been running campaigns against cow slaughter and beef consumption, which have sometimes led to violence against Muslims.
