- Court approves freezing of properties for seven suspects, excluding Moonis and Zaigham Abbas
LAHORE: The Special Central Judge Lahore on Saturday declared Moonis Elahi, son of former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, and five others as absconders in a money-laundering case filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Special Central Judge Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh heard the money laundering case and approved the FIA request for freezing the properties of all nine accused.
The court approved the freezing of properties for seven suspects, excluding Moonis Elahi and Zaigham Abbas.
During the hearing, the FIA submitted the incomplete challan of nine accused including Moonis Elahi in the court.
The FIA’s challan includes Moonis Elahi and co-accused Faryasat Ali, Imtiyar Ali, Aamir Sohail, Wajid Ahmed, and Aamir Fayyaz as absconders, while Zara Elahi, Ahmed Farhan, and Zaghim Abbas are mentioned as being out on bail.
The counsel for Moonis Elahi and Zaigham Abbas sought time for arguments on properties freezing matter from the court, which the judge approved and directed counsel to present arguments until August 20.
Judge Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh issued a written order following the preliminary hearing, stating that the FIA is coordinating with international police to apprehend Moonis Elahi.
The judgement mentions that Interpol is being engaged for the arrest of Moonis Elahi and Interpol has issued red notices to him. Zara Elahi is accused of kick-backs. As per investigative officer, Zara Elahi couldn’t present evidence of her income sources.
As per challan, Zaigham Abbas is a cash boy of Moonis Elahi and accused Zaigham Abbas used to do illegal money transactions in the bank accounts of other accused. It has been alleged that accused Ahmed Farhan used to deposit money in the bank accounts.
It is pertinent to be noted that FIA registered the money-laundering and corruption case against Moonis Elahi on June 6, 2023.
