KP govt demands resignation of chief election commissioner

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and members, citing dissatisfaction with their handling of elections and reserved seats.

KP government spokesperson Barrister Dr Saif condemned the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) performance, labelling it as disappointing and biased against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Dr Saif accused the commissioner of personal vendetta against PTI and facilitating unconstitutional actions by a conspiratorial group. He demanded immediate resignations from the commissioner and the members, accusing them of committing unconstitutional acts.

He further criticised the ECP for disregarding court orders and constitutional requirements repeatedly. He alleged that the commission deprived PTI of its electoral symbol, forcing the party to contest without it, leading to significant electoral malpractice before, during, and after the elections.

Despite these challenges, Dr Saif noted that the people still supported PTI, leading to their success in the elections. He criticised the ECP for ignoring all unconstitutional actions while acknowledging the public’s support for PTI.
