ISLAMABAD: In a sequence of legal developments, PTI leader Sanam Javed was initially handed over to Balochistan Police, with a local court granting her transit remand for relocation to Quetta.
However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) later intervened, hearing a plea that halted her arrest until Thursday and allowed her to return home temporarily.
The events unfolded as Sanam Javed faced charges connected to incidents on May 9, leading to her handover by Islamabad Police to their Balochistan counterparts.
This action followed shortly after a district and sessions court in Islamabad had acquitted her in a case related to anti-state content posted on social media. Despite the acquittal, she was re-arrested, sparking further legal contestation.
During the IHC proceedings, presided over by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Sanam’s legal representation, Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq, argued against her detention citing no active FIR by Islamabad police against her.
The court then issued an order barring her arrest, mandating that she remain within the jurisdiction of Islamabad and avoid making any public comments until the specified date.
Justice Aurangzeb’s directive to the police was to compile and present a comprehensive one-year record of proceedings against Sanam, emphasizing close monitoring and legal adherence in her case.
This decision provided a momentary relief for Sanam Javed, underscoring the complex legal landscape she navigates as both the local and high courts assess her situation.
