Former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Azam Khan, on Thursday provided significant revelations regarding the ongoing £190 million reference case.
During his testimony, Khan disclosed that Shahzad Akbar, aide on accountability to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, had personally handed him a signed note requesting cabinet approval for the matter.
According to Khan, the note bearing Akbar’s signature was delivered confidentially, accompanied by instructions from the prime minister himself to seek cabinet endorsement. Upon receiving the note, Khan promptly forwarded the file to the cabinet secretary for formal presentation. However, due to a prior commitment, Khan was unable to attend the subsequent cabinet meeting.
In his statement during the proceedings, Khan confirmed the authenticity of a document presented by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), stating, “My signature is indeed on that document.”
The accountability court had summoned Azam Khan, along with former Defense Minister Pervez Khattak, Zubeida Jalal, and Patwari Gohar Abbas, as witnesses in the high-profile £190 million reference case. The case has drawn significant attention due to its implications involving senior government officials and financial dealings.
