Anchor Ayesha Jahanzeb drops domestic violence case against husband, chooses to ‘reconcile’

In the Lahore District and Sessions Court, a significant development occurred in the domestic violence case involving anchorperson Ayesha Jahanzeb and her husband.

During Friday’s hearing, Ayesha Jahanzeb and her husband, Haris, reached a reconciliation agreement. The court inquired whether Ayesha agreed to the reconciliation voluntarily, to which she affirmed, stating she was reconciling of her own free will. “Whatever happened was torture and should not happen to any woman,” she declared in court.

Ayesha Jahanzeb expressed her acceptance of the judges’ decision, saying, “Whatever decision the honorable judges have made, I accept it.” She also conveyed her decision not to pursue the case further, noting that the decision was finalized in the presence of witnesses.

In the same proceedings, the court granted bail to Haris. The Sarwar Road police station had filed a case against him following Ayesha’s allegations.

On July 10, Haris was arrested on charges of torture after Ayesha filed a complaint. She alleged that she had been subjected to violence by her husband at least three times over the past year, sustaining serious injuries from the abuse. This prompted her to seek legal recourse.

The FIR detailed that Ayesha was tortured and injured by her husband. In response to her complaint, the police swiftly arrested Haris and produced him before a judicial magistrate, who approved a two-day physical remand.
