LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday announced the launch of a free home delivery service from 36 model markets of the province during the inauguration ceremony of the Model Bazaar Free Home Delivery Project in Township, Lahore.
She committed to the expansion of model bazaars throughout Punjab, with plans to establish new markets where necessary and upgrade existing ones.
“Through initiatives like Nighaban Ramadan and Dastak App, we are making sure that the rights of the people are delivered right at their doorsteps,” Sharif said. She emphasized that any city lacking a model market would soon have one, as lands for these have already been earmarked.
The Chief Minister praised Malik Afzal Khokhar for his exemplary management of the model bazaars. She highlighted the facilities provided at these bazaars, including suitable seating areas, wheelchairs, and specially designed public toilets for the disabled, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all visitors.
Sharif also noted that food items in Model Bazaars are available at prices lower than those notified by the district coordination. “It’s heartening to see the happiness of the people with the facilities available at the Model Bazar,” she remarked.
The introduction of the free home delivery service marks a significant milestone, Sharif stated, particularly benefiting women who can now order essential items directly to their homes either via phone or through the app.
Addressing other governmental efforts, Sharif announced the launch of Punjab’s largest-ever solar project aimed at reducing the burden of electricity bills. “For consumers using up to 200 units per month, free solar plates will be provided; those consuming 200 to 500 units per month can avail of a solar system on easy monthly installments,” she explained, asserting that this initiative would provide lasting relief from high energy costs.
On a political note, Sharif expressed concerns over recent Supreme Court decisions, questioning their implications for national stability and accusing them of rewriting the constitution to favor opposition elements. “These conspiracies against development and stability will not be tolerated,” she asserted.
Sharif concluded her address by reaffirming her commitment to continuous development and exemplary governance. She commended the administrative and security arrangements during Ashura, highlighting the use of drone cameras to monitor processions and the establishment of ‘Sabils’ to distribute food among the mourners. “As long as I am in office, I promise to set new examples of development and public service,” she pledged.
