Holy Kaaba bathed, perfumed in biannual cleansing ritual

MAKKAH: The sacred ceremony of bathing the Kaaba was conducted in Makkah, with the door of the Holy Kaaba opened for this revered ritual on Sunday.

The elaborate tradition, performed twice a year, involves washing the Kaaba with Zamzam and rose water.

Television reports noted that after the washing, the Kaaba is perfumed with fine fragrances such as pure OOD, rose water, and incense. The interior of the Kaaba is washed using 45 litres of scented Zamzam water, typically following dawn prayers.

The inner walls, standing three metres high, and the ceiling, covered in green silken cloth, are meticulously cleaned. The Maqame-e-Ibrahim, which houses the footprints of Prophet Ibrahim (RA), is also washed during the ceremony.

Imams and officials from the Haramain Sharifain administrative affairs were present at the event, witnessing and participating in the ritual.
