NA speaker rules out new vehicles for standing committee chairmen

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has rejected the demand from the chairmen of Standing Committees for new vehicles, according to National Assembly Secretariat sources.

Several chairmen had raised concerns that the vehicles assigned to them were old and inefficient.

Ayaz Sadiq responded by noting that the vehicles currently in use range from 2017 to 2019 models. “The vehicle I am using is also of a 2015 model,” he stated.

He further explained that there are insufficient funds for new vehicle purchases and mentioned a ban on such acquisitions by the Prime Minister. The finance ministry has also reportedly denied funding for new vehicles.

The Speaker has ordered that old vehicles be repaired and allocated to the chairmen of the Standing Committees. “The defects have been removed on the speaker’s order,” he confirmed, indicating that the older vehicles of the NA secretariat are still usable.
