Lahore police arrest honey trap gang involved in anti-feminist activist’s abductions

LAHORE: Lahore police apprehended a honey trap group involved in the robbery and abduction of wealthy individuals, including anti-feminist activist and writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar, on Monday.

The Model Town police arrested four women and five men who were members of the honey trap group. Although the mastermind, Hassan Shah, managed to evade capture, a key member, Amina Arooj, was among those arrested.

According to police sources, the group targeted famous and wealthy individuals by honey-trapping them to extort money. The organised crime unit of Model Town Police Station conducted raids in Lahore and other cities, resulting in the apprehension of several group members.

Police disclosed that Amina Arooj had been in contact with Khalilur Rehman Qamar for six days, posing as someone interested in producing a drama. On July 15, she invited him to meet her at Bahria Town, Lahore. When Qamar arrived, he was ambushed by seven armed men who robbed him of his belongings, including his debit card, ID card, cash, and mobile phone. The gang then forced Qamar to reveal his phone and debit card passwords, transferring money and data before abducting him.

Qamar recounted that the gang tortured him and demanded an extortion sum of Rs 10 million, eventually leaving him at an unknown location after failing to obtain the full amount.

A case of kidnapping, torture, and robbery was registered at Sundar Police Station on Qamar’s complaint. Police continue to search for the group’s mastermind and other accomplices.
