KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notices to respondent on a petition challenging legality of taxes and other charges in K-Electric’s bills for domestic consumers.
The petitioner, a resident of Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar, filed the petition in the SHC, naming the Federal Ministry of Water and Power, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and the K-Electric, as respondents in the case.
The high court has served notice to respondents and sought their reply over legality of the charges in domestic electricity bills.
It is to be mentioned here that another petition, filed by Jamaat-e-Islami, against the power utility has also been under hearing in the Sindh High Court against unannounced outages during the heatwave in Karachi.
The court has sought arguments from lawyers over the reply of the power utility on the next hearing and adjourned the case until August 15.
The petitioner had pleaded with the court to direct the K-Electric to ensure uninterrupted power supply especially during the heatwave conditions.
