Iconic Monal Restaurant to shut doors following Supreme Court order

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad’s iconic Monal restaurant has announced it will close following a Supreme Court order.

Monal stated on their Facebook page: “It’s time to say goodbye. As per the honorable Supreme Court’s directions, we will close on September 11, 2024.”

The restaurant expressed gratitude toward their patrons for “their recognition, appreciation, and a place in their hearts.”

“Since opening in 2006, it has been an absolute pleasure for the Monal family to serve and showcase a positive image of Pakistan and its beautiful people. This journey was full of success stories and emotions for our team, but now, it’s time to say goodbye.”

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has mandated the closure of all restaurants operating within national parks, which includes the Monal restaurant, situated in the scenic Margalla Hills National Park. This ruling was issued on June 11.

The Court decreed that all restaurants within the national park must be completely dismantled within three months, emphasizing that commercial activities are not permitted within the park, though it acknowledged the need to relocate affected businesses.
