Arshad Nadeem boards flight back to Pakistan; set to receive hero’s welcome in Lahore

rshad Nadeem, the Olympic gold medallist from the Paris Games, is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan tonight, where a grand reception awaits him at Lahore Airport at approximately 1 a.m. The reception will feature a Punjab Police band to honor his remarkable achievement.

Lahore Police have planned an extraordinary VVIP protocol for Nadeem, with over 150 officers and personnel assigned to ensure his security. An elite convoy will escort him, with vehicles leading and trailing his own. The convoy will be accompanied by a traffic pilot and a DSP-ranked officer throughout the journey, while divisional SPs, along with their respective SDPOs and SHOs, will meet Nadeem at various points along the route.

In Nadeem’s hometown of Mian Channu Chak 101, villagers have been urged to prepare for a journey to the airport, with government-provided buses arranged for transportation.

Lahore Traffic Police have completed all necessary traffic arrangements under the supervision of SP Munir Hashmi, ensuring smooth travel on roads leading to the airport, including Ring Road and Airport Road.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered that Arshad Nadeem be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in recognition of his record-breaking performance at the Paris Olympics. A special ceremony will be held to present Nadeem with the prestigious civil award, acknowledging his outstanding contributions to sports. The Aiwan-e-Sadr has already sent a formal request to the Cabinet Division to confer the award, following the President’s directive.

Nadeem made history by securing Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in athletics, triumphing in the men’s javelin throw at the 2024 Paris Games. His victory, particularly over defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India, has elevated him to the status of a national hero.

With a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters, Nadeem not only clinched the gold medal but also set a new Olympic record, inspiring youth across the nation.

In a related gesture, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a commemorative stamp titled “Azm-e-Istehkam” (Commitment to Stability) on the occasion of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day. The stamp, featuring Arshad Nadeem’s image, celebrates his remarkable achievement and honors his contribution to the nation’s pride.
