Cash prizes and national awards: Here’s a list of what awaits Olympic medalist Arshad Nadeem upon his return

Arshad Nadeem has secured his place in Pakistan’s sporting history by setting a new Olympic record twice during the javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics 2024, ultimately earning the gold medal. His throw of 92.97 meters not only secured Pakistan’s first Olympic medal in 32 years but also placed him ahead of India’s Neeraj Chopra. Following this monumental achievement, Nadeem is set to receive numerous rewards, with several cash prizes and honors already announced by various Pakistani ministers and prominent figures. Below is a breakdown of the confirmed rewards for Nadeem.

Nadeem is expected to receive over PKR 150 million in rewards.

A significant portion of this amount comes from Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, who has pledged PKR 100 million to Nadeem, as reported by a private news outlet. Additionally, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has announced an additional PKR 2 million reward.

In Sindh, the Chief Minister has committed PKR 50 million to Nadeem, with Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab affirming this amount. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has also pledged an additional PKR 1 million.

Popular Pakistani singer Ali Zafar has confirmed he will contribute PKR 1 million to Nadeem, while cricketer Ahmad Shahzad has also committed the same amount through his foundation.

Highest Civil Award, Gold Crown, and Other Tributes

During a session of the National Assembly, members unanimously passed a resolution urging the government to honor Nadeem with the highest civil award, according to a report from a private news outlet. Additionally, Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Syedaal Khan Nasar, has planned to host an honorary dinner for Nadeem upon his return to Pakistan.

In a further display of admiration, Sindh Government spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor, Barrister Islam Shaikh, announced that Nadeem would be presented with a gold crown upon his arrival, as reported by a private news outlet. Shaikh also revealed that a new sports stadium in Sukkur would be named in Nadeem’s honor.

Moreover, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced plans to establish the ‘Arshad Nadeem Athletics Academy’ in Karachi, another tribute highlighted by a private news outlet.

As an additional gesture of appreciation, Beacon Energy, a leading solar energy company in Pakistan, will gift Nadeem a solar energy system.
