IHC grants protective bail to PTI’s Sanam Javed for week in a May 9 case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday barred the police from arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist leader Sanam Javed in connection with a case related to the May 9 riots and granted her protective bail for one week.

Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC announced the decision while hearing Sanam Javed’s application. The court also instructed Mrs Javed to appear before the concerned court within a week.

The court instructed the police not to arrest Sanam Javed till August 19.

It is to be noted that the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore had issued bailable arrest warrants for Sanam Javed and PTI leader Rubina Jamil after the court rejected their request for exemption from appearance in of May 9 cases.

Javed, accompanied by her lawyer Ahad Khokhar, presented her case before the court.

The counsel argued that his client be granted protective bail so she could appear in the trial court without fear of immediate detention.

Earlier, the Anti-Terrorism Court has issued arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed in the May 9 riots case.

The court rejected Sanam Javed’s request for exemption from appearance and issued bailable arrest warrants for her.

Former MNA Rubina Jamil and Ayesha Ali Bhutta had also requested for exemption from appearance, which was rejected by the court.

It is pertinent to mention here that on July 10, the LHC bench comprising Justice Asjad Javaid Ghural and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, acquitted the PTI activist in a case registered by the Gujranwala Cantonment Police in connection with the May-9 violence.

Later, the Islamabad Hight Court ordered the release of the PTI activist Sanam Javed after a series of arrests and re-arrests.
