US extends independence day wishes to Pakistan, promise stronger bilateral relations

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has extended felicitations to the people of Pakistan on the occasion of country’s 78th Independence Day on Wednesday.

In a statement, Secretary Blinken stated that for the past 77 years, the ties between the peoples of the two countries had served as the foundation of their bilateral relationship.

“In the year ahead, we will deepen the US-Pakistan partnership and expand our people-to-people ties to build a more prosperous future for both our nations,” he added.

“We look forward to continuing a partnership that makes both countries more secure, as we strengthen our shared commitment to democratic principles and respect for the rule of law,” he said and added “I wish all those celebrating today – in Pakistan, the United States, and across the world – a joyous Independence Day.”

In a video message, US Senator Van Hollen said, “Hi, I’m Chris Van Hollen and I’m proud to represent the great state of Maryland in the United States Senate. And I’m very pleased to join all of you in celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day.

“Over the past 77 years, the people of the United States and the people of Pakistan have built strong bonds of friendship. And I look forward to doing my part to continue to strengthen our relationship.

“Throughout my life, I’ve experienced the generosity and warmth of the Pakistani people. And here in the United States, the Pakistani American community has made enormous contributions to our country, in every field of endeavor. They serve as important bridge builders between our two countries. So I’m honoured to join you for the special occasion. And I wish all Pakistanis a very Happy Independence Day.”

US Congressman from Texas Pete Sessions says 14th August is a day of celebration, honour and pride that comes from Pakistani Americans as they live in the United States, helping make America and Pakistan and that relationship even stronger.

In a message on Pakistan’s Independence Day, Pete Sessions said today we honour that not just relationship with Pakistan, but the lives of people who make our world even better.

The US Congressman said commerce, medicine and technology are all areas of contribution that so many Pakistani Americans have made.

He said he has an opportunity to see firsthand not just the conscious relationship between two great nations, but a reliance on each other to make the world better.

Pete Sessions said today is an opportunity for Pakistan America and Pakistani Americans to celebrate August the 14th with reliance upon each other, but the strength of friendship and character, but perhaps more importantly, for freedom and opportunity.

He expressed hope that the Independence Day would be an important day for Pakistanis and the contributions they continue to make to the United States of America, Pakistan, and a better World.
