Three-time Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Nawaz Sharif held a rare press conference earlier today (Friday) alongside daughter Chief Minister Punjab Mariam Nawaz.
He reiterated his demand for an answer to why he was ousted from power?
Focusing on his achievements as third time PM, he said he inherited an economy that was on the brink of default but his efforts saved the country from such a fate.
He said that he PML-N government of 2013 had controlled inflation and kept the USD at 104 per PKR.
On his ouster, he said he was only removed for ‘not receiving a salary from his son’.
“Is this a joke? Is this a valid reason to remove a sitting elected PM from office”, he asked rhetorically.
On inflation control
He urged his brother PM Shehbaz Sharif and CM Punjab Mariam Nawaz to do more to ease people’s suffering especially with regards to high electricity bills.
He said that Mariam Nawaz has already finalized a relief package in this regard. Those using 0-500 units a month will get Rs14 per unit discount in the months of September and October.
He added that a solar panel scheme is also in the works for the working class. This program will be a Rs700bn.
“I would urge PM Shehbaz to also undertake such an initiative”, he added.
