The extent of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security detail during their four-day visit to Colombia has been disclosed. Upon arriving in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, on Thursday, the couple quickly engaged in a meeting with the country’s vice president, Francia Marquez. During their lunch together, they discussed various objectives for their visit, including advocating for online safety.
Despite the seemingly cordial nature of their initial interactions, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in a country facing significant political unrest. The Colombian government has been accused by some of using the former royals as “political pawns” to distract from ongoing corruption allegations.
In response to the potential risks associated with these tensions, the couple was reportedly provided with an “immense security presence.” According to a journalist covering the event, this included a convoy of 14 cars and police vans.
While the Sussexes continue their tour in Colombia, attention has also turned to the Princess of Wales, whose ongoing cancer treatment schedule has been made public. She is expected to undergo “preventative chemotherapy” throughout the summer to treat an undisclosed form of cancer, followed by several months of recovery.
Rebecca English, a royal editor for the Daily Mail, reported that while the outlook is positive, there will not be significant changes in the Princess’s public appearances, and no specific timeline has been given for her return to public duties.
