Another ‘missing’ ex-Adiala jail official ‘returns’ home

RAWALPINDI: Former Adiala jail deputy superintendent Zafar Iqbal returned home after his arrest on charges of ‘facilitating’ former prime minister Imran Khan in the jail.

According to media reports, Zafar, the former Adiala jail deputy superintendent was picked up on August 13 for interrogation into ‘illegal facilitation’ of PTI founder Imran Khan in jail.

Earlier, Former Inspector General (IG) Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig also returned his residence in Lahore following what is said to be a ‘two-day detention’.

Shahid Saleem Baig’s staffer revealed that he had not been home for two days and his cellphone was also switched off, the sources added. They said that Shahid Saleem Baig’s wife who is also a government employee, also did not attend office for two days.

Prior to this, it was reported earlier that the former IG prisons was taken into custody two days ago. However, the reasons behind his alleged detention could not surface so far.

Shahid Saleem Baig served in the prison department for five years and had retired before the imprisonment of former prime minister Imran Khan.

It is pertinent to mention here that in 2021, Zafar Iqbal along with other officials was found involved in shifting inmates from one barrack to another in violation of rules and regulations for gaining financial benefits which resulted in his withholding of annual increment for a period of one year.
