LAHORE: In a recent announcement, the Punjab government has declared a relief of Rs14 per unit on electricity bills for consumers using between 201 and 500 units for August and September.
This initiative, rooted in a commitment made by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Nawaz Sharif, aims to alleviate the financial burden on middle-tier electricity consumers.
The relief, which includes taxes, translates into a financial benefit ranging from Rs2,814 to Rs7,000, depending on usage within the specified range. Notably, consumers utilizing up to 200 units are not included in this relief scheme.
This announcement follows a press conference held by Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where they addressed the economic strains faced by citizens due to rising power costs. During the event, it was also revealed that Maryam Nawaz’s administration has allocated a substantial Rs45 billion for a two-month subsidy aimed at supporting power consumers who fall below the 500-unit usage threshold for July and August.
