Sindh CM house leads by example, bans plastic bottles

KARACHI: In a notable move towards environmental stewardship, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced the elimination of disposable plastic water bottles within all government offices, starting with CM House.

This decision was made official through a notification on August 16 and was promptly implemented.

The Chief Minister has directed his secretariat to replace plastic bottles with glass jugs in all meetings at the CM House to significantly reduce plastic waste. Recent footage from a meeting on Sunday illustrated this new policy in action, displaying glass jugs and cups on the tables.

During a recent meeting, CM Shah highlighted the severe impacts of plastic waste on marine life and the broader environment, citing the pollution of drains, rivers, ponds, and seas. He urged all government officials to adopt similar sustainable practices by phasing out plastic bottles and other disposable plastic items in their offices and public areas.

CM Shah is advocating for a shift towards more sustainable materials like glass and biodegradable products to promote environmental health and public welfare. “Our commitment to environmental protection starts with these small changes that set a big example,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of collective action in environmental conservation.

The Chief Minister also outlined additional measures to address environmental challenges, including a comprehensive plan to tackle air pollution across the province. “This is just the beginning of our efforts to enhance environmental quality and ensure a sustainable future for all,” CM Shah affirmed.

The shift from plastic to glass at the CM House serves as a symbolic gesture that underscores the government’s dedication to combating environmental degradation and encouraging similar actions across other government bodies and the public sector.
