At least eight people lost their lives and seven others sustained injuries when a passenger bus collided with a trailer truck on the Sukkur-Multan motorway near Malook Wali village in Ghotki in the early hours of Monday.
The Motorway Police reported that the ill-fated bus was en route from Mansehra to Karachi. Among the injured, four were in critical condition, and the casualties included women and children.
The bodies and injured were transported to Tehsil Hospital Ghotki for necessary medico-legal procedures and medical treatment. Initial reports identified some of the deceased as Noor Elahi, Shagufta, Rozina, Uneeba, and Hasnat. The police noted that the heirs of the deceased were not present at the hospital.
Rescue efforts were significantly hampered by heavy rain, which also complicated the process of identifying the bodies. Once the rescue operation was completed, the wreckage of both the bus and the trailer was moved to a rest area, according to the police.
In a separate incident, four people were killed and 11 others injured when a passenger coach plunged into a gorge in Mian Khan village, Katlang Tehsil, Mardan, sources informed Geo News on Sunday. The injured included women and children, as confirmed by rescue officials.
Additionally, on April 17, six people were killed and several others injured in a road accident on the Indus Highway near Manjhand. The collision involved three vehicles: a passenger bus, an oil tanker, and a mini-truck.
