Earthquake jolts several parts of AJK

MUZAFFARABAD: A series of earthquake tremors struck several areas in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, causing significant alarm among residents on early Tuesday morning.

The tremors were felt in Muzaffarabad and surrounding regions, including Leepa Valley, Karnah, and Jhelum Valley. The first tremor occurred at 6:16 AM, measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale, followed by a second tremor just seven minutes later at 6:23 AM, with a magnitude of 5.3, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Met Department in Islamabad.

Both tremors, with a depth of just 20 kilometers, were powerful enough to be felt over a wide area, prompting people to flee their homes and buildings in panic.

The twin tremors also impacted India-held Kashmir’s Baramula and Poonch areas. Reports indicate that a woman in the Odina village of Bandipora district was electrocuted by a live wire that fell during the quake.

Social media videos revealed that the tremors caused cracks in the walls of numerous houses, highlighting the strength of the jolts.
