‘NA-171 by-poll’: ECP sets Aug 26 as last date for postal ballot applications

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set August 26 as the final date for receiving applications for postal ballot papers for the upcoming by-election in NA-171 Rahimyar Khan-III.

Under the law, postal ballots are available to individuals in government service, members of the armed forces, their spouses, and children who are registered voters and reside with them, provided they are stationed away from their constituency. Additionally, the facility extends to persons with physical disabilities who hold a National Identity Card with a disability logo issued by NADRA, and those detained in prison or custody.

Individuals appointed by the Returning Officers, including police personnel, assigned duties at polling stations other than their designated one, are advised to apply for postal ballots within three days of their appointment.

Applications for postal ballots must be submitted on the prescribed form to the constituency’s Returning Officer. Forms can be obtained from Mr. Waqas Zafar, Assistant Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan, or downloaded from the ECP’s website at www.ecp.gov.pk.

Voters who receive postal ballots will not be allowed to vote in person at polling stations. The application should be endorsed by the voter’s office or department to prevent unauthorized applications.

Meanwhile, the last date for submission of nomination papers for the Islamabad Local Government Elections which was going to end on Tuesday has been extended.

The ECP in the wake of the applications received from various political parties besides facilitating the participation of various political parties in ICT LG elections has extended the last date for nomination papers by 28th of August

The ECP has also officially notified the revised election program and now polling would be held on October 9, 2024.
